Why training? The short answer is because it will make you a better leader. Boy Scouts of America recruits adult volunteers to lead youth as they develop into adulthood. There is a purpose behind every activity we do in BSA. The program requires trained adult leaders and leadership training for the boys, young men and young women who participate and will ultimately benefit.
The new "Training Continuum" offers many exciting opportunities to learn more about program and leadership skills while gaining confidence in leading a variety of activities. This instruction is necessary to ensure we have safe and exciting outings. Check out our offerings!
Courses are offered both within Districts and at the Council level. If your district does not have a convenient training session, please consider attending the course in another district. Please refer to the District web pages or contact the District Training Chair for additional information. For Sea Scout Leaders, please visit www.seascout.org
The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
Baden-Powell called Scouting a "game with a purpose." Our purpose is to help youth grow in citizenship, character, and mental, moral and physical fitness. Our effectiveness as adult leaders depends on how well we understand the aims and methods of the program.
But kids are attracted by the "game" portions--outdoor activities and just plain fun. Training will help you accomplish both parts, plus provide you with lots of resources and ideas. In the process, you'll gain friends and find out that the youth are not the only ones enjoying themselves!
BSA offers several levels of training. For more details check out our What makes a Trained Leader page.
